Atlantic Beach History
Atlantic Beach is another town that was created with the birth of the railway system. In 1900 the small seaside community was apart of the Henry Flagler Mayport railway branch extension. The Continental Hotel was another big draw to the Atlantic Beach area although in the end the hotel faltered and was sold to the town of Atlantic Beach.
The town of Atlantic Beach was founded in 1926 and has remained independent of the much larger Jacksonville area.
