I don’t know about y’all, but when it’s real hot out I’m constantly on the lookout for fun things to do that won’t take me out of the AC. Personally I can spend hours wandering around a museum, I find everything fascinating and really get lost in the perspective, techniques and just the artist form.

We are lucky in NE Florida to have some really nice museums – I’ve been to many around the country and for our area and size we really have some great options.

The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens is a gem in Riverside – the gardens steal the show for me. The Amelia Island Museum of History will surprise you with all the history such a small island has had – facsinating facts! MOSH is another treasure with interactive displays for kids and kids at heart located on the Southbank Riverwalk. The museum of Southern History or G. Howard Bryan Museum is full depictions of lifestyles and culture from the antebellum South and includes a research library for genealogy.

Fortunately, there are tons of museums to choose from! Here are a few of my faves in and around Fernandina Beach:

Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens

Amelia Island Museum of History

MOSH – Museum of Science and History

Museum of Southern History

With the warmest weather on us now these are all wonderful alternatives to grow the mind while staying cool.
